The Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit membership-based organization that advocates for, and works with, our member businesses. The primary reason that we exist is to do what is necessary to keep Shawano Country’s businesses healthy, thus ensuring economic, civic and cultural well-being. We represent 400+ businesses and organizations of all sizes throughout Shawano and Menominee Counties. We are not part of local state or federal government, though we do often partner with governments to accomplish economic/community development. We are funded by membership dues as well as non-dues items such as event revenue, sponsorships, and sales of various products and services. The Chamber's mission is:
"The Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce advances economic growth by coordinating resources and providing networking, promotion and education to businesses in Shawano and Menominee Counties."
Members of the Chamber serve on the Board of Directors, on committees and as Ambassadors. The board directs the Chamber staff to carry out the “plan of action.” Members serve on committees with similar interests to explore issues, programs, or opportunities of common concern.
Our chamber is not narrowly focused on one particular industry, issue, cause, or activity. We focus on a broad range of activities and support for both businesses and communities.
We serve as the “front door” for the entire area in order to attract new businesses/industry, new residents and tourists. Many newcomers, job recruits, visitors, and business people get their first impression from their visit to the chamber. We are the ones who answer the phone calls and emails from people who have questions about Shawano Country. We are an information resource for prospective business owners deciding about locating to our area. We are the ones who build an awareness of our area with tourism advertising and promotions.
We support new and existing businesses with educational seminars and workshops including leadership training. We provide networking and promotional opportunities which are critical for the survival of some businesses.
There are many benefits for a business to be a member of the chamber including exposure, promotional and networking opportunities, referrals, website link, cellphone service discount program, Chamber Bucks redemption, and meeting space to name a few.
Currently the Chamber's Executive Director sits on the following boards, councils and committees:
- Leadership Shawano County (LSC) Steering Committee
- Wolf River Youth Apprenticeship Board
- Shawano Country Tourism Council
- WI Department of Tourism's Diversity, Equity, Accessibility & Inclusion Committee
- 8th Grade Career Fair Committee
- Housing Now Coalition (of Northeast Wisconsin)
